Design and construction of the Athanor sorting centre at La Tronche in France

Missions

Setec is mobilising an expert, multidisciplinary team and is providing general project management services for the PAPREC / DHA / ARTELIA / SWS consortium.

The Grenoble Alpes Metropole project involves the construction of a new selective collection sorting centre with a capacity of 51,000 t/year on the Athanor site located on the commune of La Tronche near Grenoble (Dept. 38). The centre is designed to adapt to changes in waste production throughout the Grenoble area and has both ecological and technological ambitions.

Setec is mobilising an expert, multidisciplinary team and is providing general project management services for the PAPREC / DHA / ARTELIA / SWS consortium, responsible for the following services:

  • Participating in the design of the entire site, including technical aspects relating to operating restrictions, the construction of the building and the construction of the sorting process.
  • BIM Manager for the project. Synthesis of 3D building and process models. Managing interfaces between the building and the process
  • Preparation of the installation classified for environmental protection (ICPE – installation classée pour la protection de l’environnement) file (case-by-case and information files), analysis of regulations and modelling of heat flows in the event of a fire.
  • Fire project management (design, drafting of tender documents, awarding of contracts, monitoring of works, etc.)
  • Approval of process studies
  • Supervision over schedules
  • Coordinating internal meetings within the consortium and meetings with the project owner
  • Document management for the entire project
  • Financial management for the entire project

The new centre will process more materials using 26 sorting stages, including 12 optical sorting stages, and a robot that will seek out the smallest recyclable items. The stated aim is to improve sorting quality and adapt to the ever-increasing demand for recycling.

Challenges

setec is capitalising on 25 years’ experience in feasibility studies, project management assistance and integrated project management to offer Paprec (“mandatary”) an global project management service, including both a technical mission to design and build the sorting process and fire protection equipment, and a mission to provide comprehensive management of the teams and the progress of the project.
