Roads & highways

We include climate risk in our analyses and work across the entire value chain, from initial diagnosis to the programming and implementation of adaptation measures.

In France, roads and motorways still represent almost 90% of travel for both people and goods.

However, global warming is changing the way they are designed and built, and above all the way they are maintained and managed, in addition to the challenges associated with decarbonising these infrastructures.

In the face of climate change, infrastructure will have to adapt if it is to remain functional. To cope with these significant changes, they will need to develop a range of solutions.

As a citizen-based engineering company, setec assists local authorities in their transition to climate change. For each of our projects, we help identify the measures that need to be taken, as well as progressively implementing and evaluating them.

We are responsible for the complete engineering studies and manage the construction of linear infrastructures such as roads and motorways. Our teams are involved in project management (from design to completion), project management assistance, preliminary studies and technical expertise.

Whether it involves new infrastructure or upgrades to the existing network, setec adopts an approach based on comprehensive risk management into each of these projects in order to optimise costs and deadlines, limit their environmental impact and improve acceptance through community consultation.

For example, we are participating in an assignment for the Infrastructure, Transport and Mobility Department (in French – DGITM) on the resilience of the national road network. This assignment involves a study of the physical and functional vulnerability of the national road network in relation to the climate trajectory (+2°/+3°C), broken down by type of hazard, structures and issues, and by geographical location.

Our ambition is to contribute to a better understanding of the effects of climate change on infrastructure in order to provide strategic support to managers in their choice of projects, investments and development to ensure the sustainable safety of people and property. We assist infrastructure managers in their efforts to take ownership of the issues and build action strategies based on solid diagnostics.
