Circular economy

The construction and public works sector is one of the main consumers of resources, users of energy, emitters of greenhouse gases and producers of waste, both in France and worldwide.

Increasing awareness and changes in regulations are pushing all parties involved in the construction and public works sector to review the way they design and carry out projects in order to reduce these impacts.

The nature and diversity of the projects in which the setec teams are involved mean that these issues can be tackled at different levels and in different ways: reducing the consumption of primary materials, local sourcing, eco-design of products and structures, reuse of products at the end of their lifecycle, and recycling of waste.

For our engineers, this means :

– Making the most of what already exists: finding opportunities for the waste from existing buildings and structures to be demolished or rehabilitated

– Controlling the impact of the present: carrying out studies using reused or recycled materials

– Anticipating the future: designing for dismantlability and adaptability to anticipate the future of our projects.

The setec teams carry out circular economy engineering assignments in all areas of expertise: infrastructure, buildings, linear structures, airport structures, the rail sector, etc. The primary objective is to reduce the impact of our projects on the environment of the areas in which we operate. These include audits and diagnostics (PEMD, Resources), project management assistance, project management and consultancy.

Through the Engineers & Citizens – Circular Economy challenge, engineers from around a dozen group companies are exchanging ideas and working together to put in place the tools and habits that will enable all of the group’s engineers to become familiar with the issue. The objectives are to highlight our expertise, strengthen our service offerings to assist clients in achieving greater circularity in their projects and understand the missions of the future in all our areas of activity.
