Nuclear

Based on our experience and expertise in industrial and infrastructure projects, setec has gradually extended its services to the nuclear industry.

From project management to civil, geotechnical and seismic engineering, including hydraulics, water treatment, chemistry and reactives, mechanical processes, materials and structural diagnostics, setec's range of skills is highly complementary.

Today, the capitalisation of this multidisciplinary experience enables setec to establish a position in nuclear engineering projects, in order to assist clients in the new build, requalification or retrofit phases of projects :

  • nuclear reactor (high power or SMR),
  • research facilities,
  • fuel cycle,
  • dismantling and waste storage.

The nuclear industry employs approximately 300 people in eight branches throughout France and has one site based in the UK.

This activity focuses on three themes:

  • Plant design and sizing
  • Diagnosis and durability of structures
  • Project and data management

setec has particular expertise in :

  • Dynamic calculation of structures and pyrotechnic actions on structures;
  • Geotechnics, soil-structure interaction (static and seismic), soil reinforcement, tunnels and underground structures;
  • Digital continuity ;
  • Centralising, displaying and jointly analysing diagnostic data on the materials that make up structures on a 3D digital medium to optimise the predictive maintenance of structures;
  • Fire modelling within a facility ;
  • Defining and implementing project management information systems
  • Automated reporting based on various Business Intelligence tools and AI

The nuclear industry is thriving in a highly favourable climate, between the need for an ecological transition and energy sovereignty. Whether in France, with the presidential announcements concerning the construction of 6 EPR2 reactors, the “Grand Carénage” (major renovation) of existing power plants, for which €66 billion has been allocated, or the forthcoming launch of the ANDRA CIGEO project, or internationally, with the confirmation of major needs in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Canada, India, Japan and Poland, the growth in the nuclear market looks set to continue over the coming years.
