The national marine museum

Missions

The mission assigned to setec organisation consisted of producing, in close collaboration with the project teams, a schedule projecting the time required to reinstall the collections on the scale of individual works or groups of works.

In 2017, the National Marine Museum embarked on a vast programme of restoration and modernisation with the aim of reopening to the public in 2022.

The main objectives are to

  • To improve the facilities for welcoming the public by providing new, larger and more comfortable spaces, and offering a new range of services (cafeteria, shop/bookshop, news and documentation areas, etc.),
  • Create a new museum itinerary to raise public awareness of marine issues,
  • Promoting and conserving the museum’s collections,
  • Providing space for major events and cultural activities,
  • Accessibility for all, to the various museum display areas.

This modernisation project is divided into three main areas:

  • Restoration and upgrading of part of the Palais de Chaillot, which is shared with the Musée de l’Homme (the latter having been renovated in 2015),
  • A complete overhaul of the museum’s exhibition space (with CASSON-MANN in charge of the scenography).
  • Construction of a new reception area and new public service areas,

The rehabilitation of the building and the redesign of the museum itineraries are being carried out under the delegated management of OPPIC.

The museographic project includes around 1,000 works of very different types and sizes. The MnM’s works are currently housed in reserves at Dugny, near Le Bourget in the Île-de-France region.

Setec also performed an SCMC mission on behalf of Oppic, with the objective of managing the overall timetable for completion and handover of the project, and overseeing the interfaces between the different sub-operations.
