The “Tri en Seine” operation was organized within the framework of the “Quartier des Deux Rives” industrial and territorial ecology project, carried and managed by RATP and the City of Paris. It is a river waste collection center experiment for businesses located in the 12th and 13th district. Transporting waste by river avoids the emissions and nuisances of several dozen trucks in Paris. This is done for the benefit of river transport with lower emissions in terms of greenhouse gases, and collection of the last km by cargo bike.

The objective of the Deux Rives project is to create a collaborative economic model in the heart of Paris, perfectly in line with our “Engineers & Citizens” approach. More specifically, the participating companies wish to bring out concrete solutions to be deployed in particular on the following themes: shared management of waste, reduction of disposable packaging for meals and soft mobility.

Setec had the pleasure to participate in the operation of September 18th, 2020, during the week of mobility and Heritage Days. Access to this experiment was free to any company wishing to participate. The only condition was to make the waste streams identified during the operation available. Most of the waste was transported by tricycles transported by 13 Avenir, a local company, which also aims to provide employment for the long-term unemployed.

The purpose of the experiment was to test, over a short period, the operation of a river waste collection center in the heart of a dense urban district, characterized by mixed occupancy (housing / businesses), to measure its constraints and potential environmental benefits. A 1st edition of the experiment in July 2019 showed encouraging first results, with the collection of nearly 15 tons of multi-stream waste and an 83% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the road collection model currently used. This second edition enabled the collection of 19 tons of waste! The rest of this operation will be discussed in the coming days with the Quartier des Deux Rives stakeholders.
