Noise pollution related to construction projects

Missions

setec performed the following tasks:
-Assessment of noise pollution in the Principality through on-site meetings with construction managers (both public and private construction sites)
– Benchmark of international best practice (London, Amsterdam, Paris, etc.) for noise reduction at construction sites. Propose innovative solutions suitable to the context of the Principality.
– Feasibility study for the implementation of selected solutions. The latter needed to be replicable throughout the entire territory
– Prepare and facilitate plenary sessions and technical meetings

The Principality of Monaco is a very dense urban area. Multiple public and private construction projects are often underway simultaneously, generating high levels of noise pollution.
In an effort to manage noise disturbances, two ministerial decrees were issued in 2018 leading to the creation of the Innovation Commission early 2019. The Commission brings together all public and private stakeholders in the construction industry, as well as state officials. It aims to review noise pollution caused by construction sites, monitor technical and technological developments, assess the feasibility of implementing the selected solutions in the Principality, and drafting recommendations for their implementation.

Challenges

Benchmark of international best practice (London, Amsterdam, Paris, etc.) for noise reduction at construction sites.
The Minister of Public Works, Environment and Urban Development already confirmed the amendment of the ministerial decree on noise pollution related to constructions, rendering it clearer, more effective, and mandatory to all construction firms.
