Deepsea transhipement ports implementation

Missions

Specifications and management of the offshore swell modeling

  • Sea state spread study
  • Harbour agitation study
  • Time estimate of transhipement operations
  • Design of the protective structures
  • Modeling of the wave-structure interaction
  • Assessment of technical solutions regarding manoeuvrability constraints and sedimentary risks
  • Contribution to setting the solution

In view of the forthcoming Panama Canal expansion project (capacity doubling), the CMA CGM Group re-developed its commercial networks and traffic lanes with the implementation of deepsea transhipement ports.
This new optimization strategy is based on the development of deepsea transhipement ports, where the goods are transfered from very large ships for long distances to smaller ships for short distances.
The study consisted in selecting the best locations for these ports, taking into account the technical and financial feasibility of each position (backfill, type of docks, protection works…).
