Technical audit of 19 small hydropower plants in the Alps

Missions

Setec carried out a due diligence process on 19 medium head hydropower plants. The latter have capacities ranging from 0.5 to 14 MW, for a total of 70 MW.
Setec was tasked with the following:
– Reviewing input data
– Visiting the power plants and assessing technical quality
– Developing a 30-year investment plan
– Conducting regulatory and environmental audits
– Reviewing and optimlizing operational practices
Setec also assisted the Client in developing a 30-year plan to account for future maintenance costs

An electricity operator was in the process of buying a group of 19 hydropower plants, located in the Alps and with a total capacity of 70 MW, and tasked setec with handling the due-diligence process prior to acquisition.
This included:
– Assessing existing infrastructures and equipment
– Conducting a regulatory and environmental assessment
– Re-evaluating hydrological processes
– Reviewing existing operational practices (energy simulation)
