Between the 12th and 13th of August , during the night, a remarkable technical achievement took place at the future metro station Fort d’Issy-Vanves-Issy of the south line n°15 of the Greater Paris Express. 7,000 tons of concrete roof were installed into place over this new station. A technical prowess achieved within a tight schedule.

Of a remarkable size (25 meters wide, 80 meters long and 1.5 meters of thick), the giant slab weighs in at around 8400 tons. Spectacular –a few hours beforehand, the concrete slab was within 60 meters of its final destination – the operation allowed the slab to be transported from its construction site and slid like a lid onto the roof of the new station. This all took place over the weekend of the 15th of August during which the 4 SNCF railway lines were completely shut down for 4 days. This was all realized by using Kamag platform trailer (42 elements of 4 or 6 axes, 4 wheels per axis meaning 960 wheels in total with 10 tons per capacity per wheel). A total of 12 hours were required to complete the shifting and sealing of the slab. The final operations associated with the railways lasted 3 and a half days. During the two previous months, the teams took turns on the construction site 24 hours a day and 6 out of 7 days a week in order to respect the date that was fixed in October 2013 by the SNCF.

Work carried out under operational conditions.

The roof of the future station was built separately from the rest of the building in order to guarantee the functioning of the Transilien Line N during the duration of the works, the new transport hub being located under the present station of Clamart. Eight temporary railway bridges were installed last January, leaving a space of six meters under the tracks. This gap allowed to complete the molded walls that make up the shell of the future station.

And the next step?

The different levels of the station will be progressively widened right up to 2019. The opening of the South Metro Line n°15 of the Greater Paris Express is planned for 2022.   Owner: SGP Designer ans prime contractor: setec Construction Company: Bouygues Construction
