Owner’s Engineer – C&D waste

Missions

setec performed the following tasks:
– Estimation of C&D waste generated
– Evaluation of waste recovery options
– Monitoring the implementation of the asbestos removal plan
– Monitoring the asbestos removal process
– Waste tracking forms

SITTOM-MI (local waste authority in Brittany) had to modernize its headquarters, located in Pontivy. Before starting the renovation process, floors and partition walls needed to be cleaned and demolished. Asbestos also needed to be safely removed and disposed of.
In line with the DEMOCLES approach, SITTO-MI wanted to dismantle the interior of its building progressively, recovering the maximum amount of reusable and recyclable materials.

Challenges

setec assisted SITTOM-MI in its renovation process, bringing its expertise on construction waste recovery to the table. An initial assessment was conducted using BIM modeling, allowing 90% of the materials to be reused by the end of the project. All recyclable and valuable materials were removed from the building prior to its demolition: carpets were used as fuel in a cement factory, plaster was separated from other materials, wood-based materials were transformed into chipboard, roof slates were reused as mulch
