To meet the environmental excellence goals of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, our team designed these buildings in the athletes’ village as a showcase for French expertise in eco-design.
Low-carbon concrete base and core infrastructure, mixed wood-concrete floors, glued laminated timber columns, load-bearing facades with timber frame walls, and green balconies and terraces for bioclimatic comfort.
The main challenges:
› To successfully use exposed structural timber in a fire-resistant building
› The use timber as high as the seventh floor
› To give priority to the use of French timber resources.
Eco-design focus:
Designed for conversion into housing, the buildings in the athletes’ village have been awarded the ‘excellent’ label by the most demanding French construction standards: HQE, E3C2, BBCA and BREEAM. They guarantee high environmental quality and optimised carbon footprint thanks to the use of PEFC-certified wood and the judicious use of concrete.
