Designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava (Lyon-Saint Exupéry TGV station and Pont de l’Europe in Orléans with setec), this observation tower is being built for EMAAR.
It will mark the development of the Port of Dubai. According to the designer, the design is directly inspired by the Orchid flower and has its roots in Islamic culture and minaret architecture. The tower is stabilised by two layers of guy wires, describing a hyperbolic surface. The design incorporates both the most advanced technical and environmental developments and the culture and heritage of the Arab Emirates.
