Renovation of the Musée d’Orsay, Paris

Missions

Design/engineering

The conversion of the former Orsay station into a museum was one of the major cultural building works in Paris of the 1970s and 1980s. The existing building, after underpinning work 17 m below ground level, was reinforced and waterproofed.

Challenges

The renovation and conversion of this old building required a multitude of techniques. The prime contractor also had to manage a project combining experts in civil engineering, construction and the art world.
