Given that suburb-to-suburb travel represented 70% of the total daily trips in Ile-de-France, the region’s 1994 blueprint identified the development of rail bypasses and express lines as a priority for public transport.
The TLN project involved building a passenger rail link between Sartrouville and Noisy-le-Sec, creating two new lines running parallel to the Grande Ceinture line, over a distance of approximately 28 km to link 14 stations, including 6 new ones. The rolling stock on this line is reduced-size “light” equipment.
This new rail link was aimed at meeting growing travel needs in the Ile-de-France region and improving the transport mix, boosting public transport for suburb-to-suburb links.
