Restoration of the bridge over the Ouvèze in Bédarrides, Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur

Missions

As part of the design & construction supervision mission, setec is responsible for all studies and technical monitoring required for the restoration of the structure, from the initial structural assessment through to the project phase.

The project includes a detailed analysis of the structure’s current condition, a summary of the geotechnical and hydraulic studies, the definition of technical solutions, cost estimates, assessment of environmental issues, and regular monitoring of the site until the works are accepted.

The Roman period Bridge over the Ouvèze is situated within the municipality of Bédarrides. In October 2023, the Department of Vaucluse awarded the joint venture RL&A Architectes and setec the contract for the full design & construction supervision mission for the restoration of the Bridge over the river Ouvèze.

Built in the 17th century and listed as a Historic Monument since 2001, this three-arched masonry structure spans the River Ouvèze and ensures the continuity of the RD16 road. It plays a crucial role in local traffic, particularly for the municipality’s agricultural activity. Pedestrian safety on the bridge is currently inadequate.

The project aims to restore the structure sustainably, improve safety for pedestrians and preserve the bridge’s heritage value. It is situated within a sensitive environmental context (ZNIEFF, Natura 2000 Special Protected Area) and takes into account restrictions related to natural hazards, particularly flooding. The restoration will ensure the structure’s functionality whilst guaranteeing the bridge’s long-term viability.
