The Viaduc des Rochers Noirs was originally used by the regional tramway line to cross the Luzège valley.
Following the closure of the line in 1959, the track was replaced by a county road. This Gisclard-type bridge is one of only eight remaining of the 41 built worldwide.
As such, it is classified as a historic monument, but is closed due to the advanced state of corrosion affecting its suspension. setec is working to reopen it to light traffic.
The main challenges:
› Preserving a strong sense of identity for the Corrèze region
› Working on an unusual and exceptional structure
› Developing a method for replacing the suspension
Focus on eco-design:
To preserve heritage and offer new possibilities for use, the Corrèze County Council is renovating the Viaduc des Rochers Noirs, a historic monument built in 1913. The renovation of this infrastructure, which bears witness to the golden age of railways, is giving a new lease of life to this early 20th-century structure. The approach developed by setec limits the consumption of resources and avoids any impact on the local ecosystem.
