EPR project – detailed design of HQ and HX buildings and the HB substructures for phase 3 of the Flamanville nuclear power plant
The launch of the construction of the Flamanville 3 EPR was a decisive stage
in the preparation for the replacement of EDF’s nuclear plants, the first of which could be decommissioned around 2020.
Planned to be commissioned in 2012, the EPR will be the first French example of 3rd generation nuclear reactors.
For setec, this detailed design mission allowed us to develop our Ansys –
Armatec computing paths while respecting the ETC-C design codes specific to EDF and the Eurocodes.
Our mission consisted in carrying out seismic studies for each of the three
buildings and, in particular, the incorporation of ground-structure interactions. Simplified mass over height models and 3D shell and beam models integrating the ground-structure interaction were also used.
EDF also asked us to study the effects of heavy loads (concrete shells and overhead crane) falling on the HQA building, in order to ensure that the raft would remain leaktight.
